Nasarawa North by-election: Envu-Alanza floors Maku, Ombugadu

Halilu Envu-Alanza of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election, defeating prominent rivals including former Information Minister, Labaran Maku of the Labour Party.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Aminu Ali, announced the result on Saturday at the collation centre located at the College of Education, Akwanga, following the conclusion of vote collation from Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba Local Government Areas.
Official results showed that Envu-Alanza secured 45,362 votes to record a comfortable victory over Labour Party candidate, Labaran Maku, who garnered 12,931 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Emmanuel David Ombugadu, polled 11,570 votes, while Alaku Mohammed Steve of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received 1,496 votes.

Declaring the APC candidate winner of the contest, Prof. Ali said, “That Halilu Dangadi Envwulanza of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared a winner and is returned elected.”
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
Meanwhile, Labour Party agents staged a protest at the Nasarawa North Senatorial District collation centre over the outcome of the election and the collation process.
The party’s team, led by Dr. Ben Ango, walked out of the College of Education, Akwanga, shortly after results from the three local government areas were collated.
Although Dr. Ango declined to speak with journalists before leaving the venue, some Labour Party officials expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the collation exercise.
Prior to the declaration of results, the Labour Party candidate, Labaran Maku, had alleged incidents of BVAS malfunction and ballot-related irregularities in some polling units.
