(BREAKING) Coronation: Afobaje places Akoko leaves on Ladoja

The Afobaje of Ibadanland, Chief Waheed Popoola of the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, in Ibadan South East Local Government Area, has performed the traditional rite of placing Akoko leaves on the head of former Oyo State governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. The symbolic act was greeted with loud cheers from the large crowd present.
The ceremony marks part of the preparations for Ladoja’s procession to the Ose Meji House, where he is expected to be crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland after leaving the Labosinde Compound.
Ladoja emerged as the Olubadan-designate following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Dignitaries at the event included the High Chief of Ibadanland, Aare Latoosa, Chief Onikepo Akande, among others.
