Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH : Sultan makes major announcement

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Monday, 25th August, 2025, will mark the beginning of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.

According to a statement issued by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs and the Wazirin Sokoto, the decision came after consultations with the National Moon Sighting Committee.

He stated that reports confirmed no sighting of the new crescent by any of the moon sighting committees across the country on Saturday, 23rd August, 2025, corresponding to 29th Safar 1447AH.

The statement further clarified that Sunday, 24th August, 2025, would be observed as the 30th day of Safar, which makes Monday the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
