Tragedy as bus plunges into river from broken bridge

A deadly accident occurred on Sunday when an Adamawa Express bus tumbled into the Namnai River in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State while trying to navigate a failed bridge.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the incident happened in the early hours of the day as the vehicle, traveling toward Taraba, lost balance on a damaged section of the Namnai Bridge and crashed into the water below.
The bridge, which gave way more than a year ago, remains unrepaired despite repeated assurances from successive administrations that it would be fixed.
The latest crash has stirred anxiety among travelers who regularly use the route, many of whom say the crumbling bridge continues to endanger lives and property.
“We have lost many lives and properties here because of government’s neglect. This tragedy shows how urgent the repair of this bridge is,” a resident lamented.
As of press time, details about the number of passengers on board and possible casualties were still unclear.
