 FG opens application portal for N10m support package for lecturers others

The Federal Government has rolled out an application platform for a N10 million support package for lecturers and non- academic  staff of tertiary education institutions in the country.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Public Communications, Sunday Dare, described the initiative as a targeted welfare scheme to boost staff development and encourage financial self-reliance.

He said: “The Administration of President Bola Tinubu Opens Portal for N10million staff support for academic and non-academic staff of Tertiary institutions.
“Presidential initiative on Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund, TISSF launched today – another testament to President Tinubu’s vision of progressive investment in the Development of Education in Nigeria.
“The Application Portal officially opens today (tissf.education.gov.ng)”, he said in a post on X handle on Thursday.

According to Dare, the fund will be provided as an interest-free loan of up to N10 million, with a five-year repayment plan and a one-year grace period. Beneficiaries can access it for transportation, small-scale agro-business ventures, medical bills, accommodation, family support, or academic advancement.

He said: “The TISSF is a strategic welfare initiative designed to enhance tertiary institution staff, support professional development and promote financial independence. In this manner it will support, interest free loan of 10 million naira max made available with a maximum repayment period of 5 years and a one-year moratorium.”

He said: “Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa asserts that the TISSF is another evidence of Renewed Hope in action. A demonstration of President Tinubu’s Commitment to Education and support for its component parts. Just like the student oriented NELFUND, an initiative which is already a run away success by the Tinubu led Administration, the TISSF comes in as a timely and much needed support intervention for University, Polytechnic and Colleges of Education Staff, academic and non-academic.”

According to him, the minister  said the initiative is a central part of the National Education Sector Renewal Implementation (NESRI) framework, with monitoring systems already in place to ensure transparency and effective delivery.

He said: “The Tertiary institution staff support fund is a key component of the National Education Sector Renewal Implementation, NESRI, framework championed by the Education Minister. The Minister has set up guard rails and a robust monitoring template to ensure smooth implementation.”
