EFCC raids Obasanjo’s hotel, makes arrest

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday reportedly carried out a raid at the Green Legacy Hotel, situated within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, leading to the arrest of several youths suspected of engaging in internet fraud.
According to a report by Punch, the operation, which saw to the arrest of the suspected internet fraudsters (Yahoo Boys), took place in the early hours of the day during a pool party on the premises.
This incident occurred less than a week after EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate apprehended a suspected internet fraudster in possession of two locally manufactured pistols during a similar raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area. That operation, conducted last Wednesday, resulted in the arrest of 55 suspects.
A video clip from Sunday’s raid, which circulated on social media, captured chaotic scenes as attendees fled while the sound of gunfire rang out.
The operatives were said to have taken several suspects into custody and confiscated “more than 20 luxury cars and other valuable items.
Sources indicated that the operation was executed by EFCC personnel from the Lagos Directorate.
An X user, A.Ayomide, recounted, “Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL, got there and the crowd was too much. I don’t like the settings, my guy doesn’t like the settings, so we were just at the car park.
“Left around 1:30, 20 minutes later I get home and I’m getting calls that EFCC is raiding OOPL.”
The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the development but withheld details.“Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know,” he told our correspondent.
When reached for comment, the Lagos Zonal Command’s spokesperson, Ayo Oyewole, said he was not aware of the operation but promised to follow up. EFCC’s national spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, also pledged to verify the incident and provide feedback.
