EFCC presents video evidence in alleged N30bn fraud case against ex-Head of Service, Oyo-Ita

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has presented video footage as evidence to refute claims by former Head of Service, Winifred Oyo-Ita, that her confessional statement was obtained under duress.
During a trial-within-trial held on June 30, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the EFCC tendered the footage showing Oyo-Ita calmly writing her statement during a 2019 interrogation session.
Chief Superintendent Hamma Adama Bello, the lead witness for the EFCC, told the court that the video confirms the former Head of Service voluntarily made the statement without coercion or intimidation.
Oyo-Ita, along with her aides, Ugbong Effiok and Garba Umar, and six companies, is facing charges over alleged diversion of over ₦3 billion through fictitious contracts, kickbacks, and abuse of Duty Tour Allowances and estacodes.
EFCC traced millions to companies allegedly linked to her, including ₦124m to Frontline Ace Global Services and ₦600m to an aide’s account.
The court adjourned to 14 and 16 October 2025 to decide on the admissibility of the confessional statements.
