Presidency reacts to report of Akume’s removal as SGF

The Presidency has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that George Akume has been removed from his position as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In a brief statement issued Saturday night, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, clarified that there has been no change in Akume’s status.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement said.
Onanuga further noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not announced any new appointments.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” he said.
The Presidency urged the public to ignore the rumours, adding: “The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.”
