JUST IN : 5 killed as bomb explosion rocks Kano

At least five individuals lost their lives and 15 others were injured in an early morning explosion on Saturday in Kano, believed to have been caused by a military-grade mortar bomb.
The blast, which occurred in a densely populated area, sparked widespread panic and prompted an immediate response from emergency services, including medical teams and security agencies.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who arrived at the location shortly after the explosion, confirmed that the blast was suspected to have originated from military weaponry.
“I received a call that something serious had happened. When I arrived, I found that it was a suspected explosion—possibly a military mortar bomb. Fifteen people were injured, and unfortunately, five died,” he said.
Rescue teams swiftly transported the injured to nearby hospitals, while investigators began combing the site for evidence.
“The situation is still under investigation, but we understand the vehicle involved may have come from Yobe State,” the Commissioner added.
Preliminary assessments indicate the explosive may have been carried by a trailer. However, authorities have yet to determine whether the truck belonged to the military or a contractor.
“Preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer, but it remains unclear whether the vehicle was carrying military personnel or contractors,” he said.
While the exact origin and purpose of the ordnance remain uncertain, Bakori urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
“Security agencies are currently investigating the incident. The facts will be clearer once the investigation is completed,” he stated.
