This is not Banana Island Dele Momodu unveils new mansion in Edo hometown

Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has unveiled a new residence in his hometown of Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, Momodu expressed heartfelt pride and gratitude as he visited the newly completed house for the first time. The Ovation Magazine publisher noted that the house was built in absentia by his cousin, with instructions and funding provided remotely.

“This is not Banana Island, Lagos, but my country home in Ihievbe,” Momodu wrote, referencing the upscale Lagos neighborhood. “Today is the first time I’m stepping into the house my cousin built for me. From foundation to completion, I never visited. I only gave instructions and paid in trickles.”

He also revealed efforts to uplift the surrounding environment, including the construction of a concrete road, installation of solar-powered street lights, and repainting of the entire street. “I’m trying to replicate the White House in Washington, DC,” he quipped.
Momodu thanked those who helped bring the vision to life, including his cousin and builder, Friday Arogha, and Mrs. Simi Alegbe, who oversaw the interior decoration.

The project, he noted, marks a symbolic return home and a personal milestone decades after the passing of his father.
