NDE disowns claim of 900,000 on youth skill engagement scheme, clarifies target is 93,731

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that it aims to engage 900,000 youths in its skills development program, clarifying that the actual target is 93,731 participants.

In a statement issued by Edmund Onwuliri, NDE’s Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, the Directorate emphasized that while the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative is underway, the earlier figure of 900,000 is incorrect.

Onwuliri explained that the NDE launched an online registration process to enroll unskilled and unemployed Nigerians as part of the initiative.

The scheme aims to ensure fair access to job opportunities, with at least ten participants drawn from each electoral ward across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The programme is designed to promote inclusive participation across all regions and demographics, with a specific focus on providing opportunities for women and persons with special needs through its 30-skill set offering.

The Directorate urged applicants to register only via its official websites—www.nde.gov.ng and www.nderegistrationportal.ng—to avoid falling victim to fraudulent sites.

Due to the overwhelming response, NDE announced an extension of the registration period by 48 hours, with the new deadline set for midnight on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

The public was further advised to disregard false information circulating online and rely on NDE’s official channels for accurate updates. The Directorate reiterated that the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative reflects its commitment to reducing unemployment through strategic and inclusive skill-building efforts.
