Senate President, Godswill Akpabio

The confirmation came after the nominees were screened by the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, chaired by Senator Simon Lalong.

President Tinubu had earlier forwarded the nominations to the Senate in March, citing Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates that such appointments must be ratified by the legislative chamber.

During plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president’s letter to members of the Red Chamber.

In his presentation, Senator Lalong informed the Senate that the committee found all nominees to be suitably qualified after a thorough screening exercise.

“All the nominees successfully passed the screening process, having been found duly qualified for the positions,” Lalong stated.
According to information gathered, the appointees reflect a broad geographic spread: two hail from the North East, while the remaining three represent the North West, South East, and South South regions.

The confirmed Resident Electoral Commissioners are Umar Yusuf Garba (Kano), Saad Umar (Bauchi), Chukwuemeka C. Ibeziako (Anambra), Mohammad I. Ngoshe (Borno), and Dr. Owede Kosioma Eli (Bayelsa).
