Nigeria penalizes Kenya Airways over passenger treatment

The Nigerian government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed sanctions on Kenya Airways following complaints from three passengers, including a Nigerian traveler identified as Gloria Omisore.

This development was announced on Friday by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, in an official statement.

According to Achimugu, the regulatory body issued a formal sanction letter to the airline on Wednesday, addressing several consumer rights violations linked to the cases.

“The infractions include failure to provide care, lack of transparency in carriage terms, poor communication with the Authority, and mishandling refunds and baggage,” he said.

In line with the NCAA Regulations 2023, Achimugu noted that the airline is required to compensate each of the affected passengers with 1,000 special drawing rights and pay additional fines.

“The airline has seven days to comply. Failure to do so will result in more severe penalties,” Achimugu added.
