4 soldiers killed in terrorists attack on Nigerian military base

At least four soldiers have been killed and military equipment destroyed following an attack by suspected Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the Nigerian Army’s 27 Task Force Brigade inGujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the attackers arrived under the cover of darkness, unleashing gunfire and explosives on the base.

“We were taken off guard by the heavy explosion and gunfire, but we stood our ground. A lot of our fighting equipment were destroyed during the encounter. Yes, we lost four of our men, just as they also recorded casualties during the fierce battle that last for hours,“ a source was quoted to have said.

The Nigerian Army headquarters acknowledged the incident in a statement posted on its verified Facebook page Saturday morning:

“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI currently in a fierce battle against ISWAP attack at Buni Gari, Yobe State. Details later.”
As of press time, the military had yet to provide further information regarding casualties.

Buni Yadi, located 65 kilometers from Damaturu, is the hometown of Governor Mai Mala Buni. A resident who fled to the Gujba council headquarters said many locals deserted their homes seeking refuge in safer areas.
“The military had shut down vehicular movement on the busy road, which serves as a link between Yobe and Biu and other towns in southern Borno,” he said.

Just two weeks earlier, Boko Haram militants attacked another military post in the Chalie area of Buni Yadi, killing three soldiers.

Communities across Borno have endured relentless attacks in recent months, with insurgents targeting villages and military outposts—particularly in Sabon Gari, Wajiroko, and Wulgo—where they overran troops and looted weapons.
