Popular vulcaniser gunned down in broad daylight attack in Auchi

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the fatal shooting of a well-known vulcaniser, identified simply as Boyo, who was murdered in broad daylight by unidentified gunmen along Warrake Road in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on Friday, left the local community in shock.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and stopped at Boyo’s roadside workshop. One of the assailants approached the vulcaniser, who was said to be resting at the time, and fired two shots at close range before fleeing.

A trader nearby recounted, “It all happened so fast. The gunman didn’t say anything. He just walked up to Boyo, shot him, and escaped. The area was thrown into chaos.”

Community leaders have condemned the killing, describing Boyo as a diligent and peaceful member of the neighborhood.

“This is a terrifying development. Warrake Road is usually quiet. To witness such brutal violence in broad daylight is unacceptable. We call on security agencies to ensure swift justice,” a community representative said.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed that the two attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

“We received the report yesterday. The victim was confirmed dead at the hospital, and a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing. The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has assured the public that no one involved in this heinous act will be spared,” Yamu said.
