Notorious bandit Shogodo killed in gun battle with police in Benue

A notorious armed bandit, Akumave Shogodo, was gunned down during a fierce shootout with the Tactical Team of the Benue State Police Command in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area.

According to sources, the operation took place around 6:30 a.m. on April 29, 2025, after a tip-off led officers to a suspected criminal hideout. Upon arrival, the bandits opened fire on the police, prompting an exchange of gunfire. Shogodo was fatally wounded during the encounter, while others reportedly fled the scene.

The team, equipped with superior firepower, successfully subdued the bandits.

According to counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, Shogodo, a well-known bandit terrorising the Zaki-Biam area, was injured in the exchange of gunfire.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later confirmed d3ad.

A locally fabricated short gun was recovered from him.

Other members of the gang managed to flee with varying degrees of injury.
