Nigerian gov approves payment of 5-month salary arrears for poly workers

One of the governors in the southern part of the country, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the payment of five-month salary arrears, alongside prompt payment of April salary for the workers of Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, in line with the N70,000 minimum wage.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okpebholo.
He described the move as a major step toward resolving the prolonged salary delays that had disrupted academic activities and dampened staff morale at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen.
According to the statement, the state government has also implemented structural reforms to prevent future salary issues at the institution.
One of the key measures includes integrating the polytechnic’s payroll into the central state payment system, ensuring timely disbursements and greater financial accountability.
The reforms, Itua added, are part of broader efforts by the administration to stabilise and improve the state’s educational institutions.
