Tragedy struck in Eruwa, located in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State, as a 28-year-old electrician lost his life while attempting to fix a fault on a 33KV high-tension power line.

The incident reportedly happened in the Odi Babaode neighborhood, where the victim was working on the cables when he was electrocuted.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, explained the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

“The incident occurred when the victim (electrician) was trying to rectify an electrical fault on the active power lines without shutting down the feeder,” Akinyinka said.

He further stated that the man was working on infrastructure operated by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.

“He was electrocuted while trying to fix an electrical fault on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s 33KV High tension cables in the area,” he added.

Akinyinka said the Fire Service received a distress call about the incident from one Adelanre Adeyinka.

“The distressed call was reported at 15:29hrs on Wednesday, April 23, 2025,” he noted.“Peluola Babatunde led a rescue team to the scene of the incident but unfortunately the victim had already been electrocuted. The remains of the victim have been recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from Eruwa Police Station.”

He also issued a safety reminder:
“Life has no duplicate hence it’s only trained engineer or technician that should shoulder the responsibility of handling active electrical equipment,” Akinyinka stressed.
