The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of an alleged notorious armed robber, Halifa Baba-Beru, following a violent confrontation with officers at Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area.

The incident occurred around 1:00 pm on Monday, April 22, after police received a distress call reporting a gang of armed men terrorizing residents in the community.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the gang allegedly led by Baba-Beru was wielding dangerous weapons and attacking innocent civilians when law enforcement arrived at the scene. A fierce exchange ensued, leading to the suspect’s death.

Upon arrival at the scene, police officers were met with resistance and came under heavy attack from the armed hoodlums, which led to a violent exchange.

However, two officers, Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu, sustained injuries in the operation, while the prime suspect, Baba-Beru, was seriously wounded.

SP Kiyawa noted that all injured parties were immediately rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital. While the two officers were treated and discharged, Baba-Beru succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Following the incident, the Kano State Police Command launched a full-scale investigation and intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.

“We assure the public that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice is served,” SP Kiyawa stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the efforts of the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

He also called on residents to remain vigilant and support the police by reporting any suspicious movements or information that could lead to the arrest of the gang’s accomplices.

“This victory is a testament to our resolve to rid Kano of criminal elements, but we need the community’s support to achieve lasting peace,” the commissioner added.
