FG explores collaboration with Tetra Pak to boost school feeding programme

The Federal Government is exploring a potential collaboration with Tetra Pak, a global leader in food processing and packaging, to enhance the implementation of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.

Senior government officials, including Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, and Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, met with a delegation from Tetra Pak led by its Managing Director, Mr. Haithem Debbiche, in Abuja. The meeting focused on identifying ways to strengthen the feeding initiative in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The forum brought together representatives from government bodies, development agencies, civil society organizations, and academic institutions. The aim was to review the current status of the programme, assess ongoing challenges, and chart a sustainable path forward.

Dr. Adeniji expressed optimism following the discussions, particularly about Tetra Pak’s readiness to support the initiative.

“She emphasized the urgent need for synergy between Tetra Pak and government to fast track investment in the National Home Grown School Feeding programme.”

Acknowledging the support of stakeholders who responded swiftly to the engagement call, she said: “She reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment towards the implementation of the school feeding programme.”

Dr. Sununu highlighted the programme’s wider impact beyond nutrition.
“He emphasized the critical role of the feeding initiative in boosting school enrollment, enhancing children’s nutritional status, and supporting local economies through the engagement of local farmers and caterers.”

He also assured that the government remains fully invested in the programme’s long-term success.

“He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the program as a strategic tool in the fight against hunger, malnutrition, and out-of-school syndrome among Nigerian children.”
