The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two unidentified Nollywood actors in Owerri, following a shared meal and wine consumption.

In a statement on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Henry Okoye, said investigations were ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

“Yes, the Command is aware of the unfortunate case of unnatural death. I can confirm that two people were pronounced dead, while two others were hospitalised,” Okoye said.

He added, “As I speak with you, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, has directed a pathologist to conduct tests on the two deceased persons to ascertain the cause of death.

“The results will determine the next line of action in the matter,” Okoye added.

Reports indicate that four actors were taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, where two were declared dead on arrival.

A source identified as Kaito Karisia said the incident occurred during a gathering at a movie director’s residence. The director, who allegedly provided the meal and drinks, had retired to bed while others continued partying.

He reportedly awoke in the early hours to switch the power supply from generator to the public grid and found two actors unresponsive, while two others were struggling to breathe.

According to Karisia, who posted details of the incident on Facebook, the surviving actors are receiving treatment at the hospital.

One of the survivors reportedly told Karisia, “Their host (the movie director) offered them rice, and everyone ate. He later brought out a bottle of Calypso and wine. They only took a sip and did not drink further. However, the two other guys who are now dead finished the drink.”
