JUST IN : Benue gov cries out, says death toll from herdsmen attacks now 56

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has appealed to the Federal Government to step up and deal with rising insecurity in the state as the death toll from the recent attacks by suspected herdsmen on Ukum and Logo local government areas in the state has risen to 56.

The governor made this plea during a visit on Saturday to Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas — the sites of the recent assaults — to assess the level of destruction and offer support to the grieving communities.

Speaking with journalists after touring the affected areas, Governor Alia strongly condemned the killings and called for more robust action from security agencies to halt the violence.

“These are violent attacks on defenseless people,” he said, adding that greater intervention is urgently needed to stop further bloodshed.

During his visit, the governor met with local leaders and community members, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity across the state.

He appealed for calm among residents, encouraging them to avoid taking the law into their own hands.

To restore peace and reassure residents, security presence has been intensified in the troubled Sankera axis, while emergency relief materials have been dispatched to the affected local government areas.
