Alhaji Abbas Muhammadu Sanusi, the Galadiman Kano and a revered kingmaker in the Kano Emirate, has passed away.

According to family sources, Sanusi died late Tuesday at his residence in Sagagi Quarters, Kano, after a prolonged illness.

The 92-year-old traditional leader is survived by three wives, numerous children, and many grandchildren.

Galadima was father of Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas and an uncle of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Sanusi was born in Bichi local government area of Kano state in 1933 and was one of the contenders for the stool of Kano Emir when Ado Bayero died.

Sanusi was in the Kano emirate council since the 1950s, he was Wamban Kano before he was declared Galadiman Kano by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi in October 2014.

The title of Galadiman Kano was introduced in the Kano emirate council during the ‘Habe’ dynasty before the Fulani era in 1804 and it was the highest title in the Kano emirate council until in 1890 when the title of Waziri was borrowed by the emirate council from the Sokoto Sultanate council.

At the moment, the position of Galadiman Kano is the second in terms of hierarchy in the Kano emirate council following the waziri position.

Burial and funeral arrangement will be announced soon.
