Police inspector shoots officer’s wife to death, injures 2 others

A police inspector attached to the Cross River State Police Command has shot and killed a woman while injuring two others in a violent incident on Sunday.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident in Calabar, stating that the officer displayed unusual behavior before opening fire.
According to Ugbo, the officer—who was assigned to the Atakpa Divisional Police Station—had just returned from a night shift at a microfinance bank when the shooting occurred.
“The police have taken the suspect into custody, and the injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment,” she said.
Sources revealed that the inspector began acting erratically upon his return from duty.
“He blocked the station’s gate, preventing entry and exit. All attempts to calm him down and disarm him peacefully failed.
“Tactical teams were deployed to the scene, but he became agitated and began shooting indiscriminately. In the process, he shot three people, including the deceased—a 41-year-old woman who was the wife of a retired police officer—and two others,” a source said.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
