Nigerian govt to review visa applications, expatriate quota system – Minister

The Nigerian government has initiated a comprehensive review of the visa application process for foreign nationals intending to visit the country for business purposes.

In addition to visa procedures, the government is also reassessing business permits and tightening control measures at air, sea, and land borders. The goal is to create a more investor-friendly environment while safeguarding national interests.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed these plans in Lagos following a private meeting with the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA).

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Tunji-Ojo said discussions centered on key government reforms, including the Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC), expatriate quotas, business permits, and border security.

According to him, “the meeting resolved to set up a committee that would work behind the scenes to fine-tune discussions on the issues so far raised.”

He emphasized that decisions made during the discussions were intended to encourage foreign investments while prioritizing Nigeria’s economic interests.

Tunji-Ojo added that stakeholders agreed to hold the meetings twice a year to ensure ongoing dialogue and sustained progress.
