Tinubu names new chief medical directors for 6 federal hospitals

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for six federal hospitals located in Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafia, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan.

The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement released on Friday, titled, “President Tinubu appoints six chief medical directors for federal hospitals.”

Among the appointees is Prof. Olusegun Ojo, who will serve as the CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. The presidency highlighted Ojo’s extensive experience, noting he was the inaugural CMD of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.

Prof. Yusuf Abdullahi was reappointed as the CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for a second term. “His reappointment underscores his exceptional leadership and contributions to the hospital’s growth,” Onanuga stated.

In Bauchi State, Dr. Dauda Katagum was confirmed as the substantive CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, after serving in an acting capacity.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ikrama Hassan will lead the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Hassan, a consultant physician, previously served as Medical Director at the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its conversion to a teaching hospital.

The President also appointed Dr. Ali Ramat, a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon, as CMD of the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State, and Dr. Haruna Shehu, a Consultant Family Physician, as CMD of the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

“All appointments are for four years, effective from the respective dates of assumption of office,” Onanuga added.

Abdullahi’s second term began on September 5, 2024, while Katagum’s appointment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, started on December 6, 2024.

President Tinubu congratulated the appointees, encouraging them to uphold professionalism, accountability, and excellent service delivery in their new roles. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical care for all Nigerians.
