Ibadan Hausa monarch dies at 125

Haruna Maiyasin Katsina, the Sarkin Hausawa of Sasa in Ibadan, Oyo State, has passed away at the remarkable age of 125.
The revered leader of the Hausa community in Ibadan died on Saturday evening, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and service.
Reacting to the news, Senator Yunus Akintunde, who represents Oyo Central Senatorial District, extended his condolences to the late monarch’s family and the wider Hausa community.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Kunle Olatunji, Akintunde said, “We have lost a great spiritual and traditional leader.”
Until his passing, Katsina served as the chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers in Nigeria’s 17 southern states. He was widely respected for his advocacy of good governance and his unwavering dedication to humanity.
The senator further expressed his sorrow, emphasizing the monarch’s lasting impact:“Well loved and highly respected by his subjects and associates across the country, Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Sarkin Sasa, as he was fondly called, will be sorely missed.
“He was both a political and spiritual leader to several of us, endowed with unequalled leadership virtues and very peaceful disposition. We will miss his staunch support, guidance, good nature and excellent relationship at all times.
“My heartfelt condolences go to his immediate family members, his subjects and the Hausa communities across the country even beyond the areas of traditional rulership jurisdiction.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Fridaus,” the lawmaker stated.
