Lagos Assembly’s crisis: Police reinstate Meranda’s security

The Lagos State Police Command has reinstated the security detail of Lagos House of Assembly Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, according to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh.
Jimoh made this announcement during a press briefing on Thursday at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos. He clarified that the security personnel were initially withdrawn for a routine audit and emphasized that the move was not politically motivated.
It had been previously reported that all security aides assigned to Meranda, including police officers, were removed, leaving her unprotected.
A source close to the Speaker expressed concern over her vulnerability, stating, “All security aides attached to the Speaker and the House of Assembly were withdrawn, leaving her exposed.”
Meranda’s spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, confirmed the situation, saying, “We’re unsure why this happened, but all police officers and security details assigned to her have been removed. She’s currently without any official protection.”
In contrast, security aides assigned to former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa were promptly restored. “By this morning, all of Obasa’s security personnel had returned,” the source added.
