Gunmen abduct travellers along Owo-Ipele-Benin highway

In a troubling incident, at least ten travellers were reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen along the Owo-Ipele-Benin Highway in Ondo State.
The state’s police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that seven individuals have been officially identified as kidnapped during the attack.
The victims, who were returning from a South-South state, were en route to Akure when the assailants struck. Their commercial vehicle was later found abandoned by the roadside, raising alarm among other drivers in the area.

Odunlami assured the public that the police are actively investigating the situation and working to secure the victims’ safe release. “We are on top of the situation, and updates will be provided as we gather more information,” she stated.
Meanwhile, sources revealed that the kidnappers have contacted the victims’ families, demanding ransom for their release.
Authorities continue to urge residents and travellers to remain vigilant as efforts to apprehend the perpetrators intensify.
