 Woman dies as truck crashes into Ibadan market

A middle-aged woman tragically lost her life on Wednesday in a lone accident involving a truck with faulty brakes at the bustling Eleyele Market in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The accident caused widespread panic as the truck, loaded with granite, lost control and rammed through the market, leaving several people injured. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as vendors and shoppers fled for safety while the truck crushed stalls and goods.

According to reports, the DAF truck was approaching the market from the Dugbe end when its brakes failed. Despite the driver’s desperate attempts to control the vehicle, it careened into the market, resulting in the fatal crash.

The injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Chairman of Sango/Eleyele Motor Park, Olanrewaju Qazeem, and the Iyaloja of Eleyele Market, Chief Mrs. Ramota Aare Ajobiare, confirmed the tragic event, stating that the accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, Mayowa Odewo, also confirmed the incident, noting that one person died while several others sustained injuries.

Efforts to reach the police for further details have so far been unsuccessful.
