Ex ADC to Jonathan who sued PSC over forced retirement dies at 54

Moses Jitoboh, the former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and ex-aide-de-camp (ADC) to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 54.

Jitoboh, who had been battling a brief illness, reportedly died on Friday. His death was confirmed on Saturday by Adebola Hamzat, the Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing Zone 16 in Bayelsa State.

Hamzat expressed his sorrow, remembering Jitoboh as a committed officer whose legacy would remain within the force.

“The passing of the DIG (Jitoboh) is a great loss, not only to the immediate family but to the entire Bayelsa State, Nigeria Police Force and the Nation at large,” Hamzat stated.

“His contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, dedication to service and integrity can never be forgotten, and before his retirement in 2023. It is our prayer that God will give the immediate family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss of your beloved Son.”

Jitoboh served in various capacities at the Force Headquarters, including in Research and Planning, as well as in Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

He also served as ADC to Jonathan during his time as both Governor of Bayelsa State and Vice President before continuing his role as part of Jonathan’s security team during his presidency.

After Jonathan’s 2015 election loss, Jitoboh returned to active police duty. In 2021, Jitoboh was reportedly overlooked when former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Usman Baba as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Following the retirement of Ibrahim Alkali in 2023, Kayode Egbetokun was appointed IGP by President Bola Tinubu. This change led to Jitoboh’s forced retirement, as he was senior to Egbetokun.

In 2023, Jitoboh challenged his retirement in court, filing a lawsuit against the Police Service Commission (PSC) for what he described as a breach of the public service rules and the Nigeria Police Act of 2020.
