Court restrains Gov Adeleke from appointing new Owa Obokun of Ijesa land

An Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has issued an interim injunction restraining Governor Ademola Adeleke, his commissioners, and other officials from appointing Prince Clement Adesuyi, members of the Haastrup family, or any other candidate to fill the vacant stool of Owa-Obokun of Ijesa land.

The court’s decision follows the passing of Oba Gabriel Aromolaran in September 2024, after a remarkable 42-year reign.

In the wake of his demise, various ruling families expressed interest in the throne, prompting the kingmakers to begin preparations for screening potential candidates.

Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe issued the injunction after a motion was filed by Prince Debo Adeyemi, Prince Adeboye Adewale, and nine other members of the Ofokutu Royal Family.

The ruling restrains Governor Adeleke, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Attorney General of Osun State, and other relevant parties from proceeding with the selection or appointment of a new monarch.
