3 killed, 6 arrested as worshippers fight dirty in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the death of three individuals following a violent clash between members of the United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN) and the Global Methodist Church (GMC) in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 15, 2024, stemmed from a longstanding leadership dispute within the UMCN, leading to the formation of the GMC as a splinter group.
Police spokesperson SP Usman Abdullahi disclosed that six suspects have been arrested in connection with the violence. Security forces, including police and soldiers, have been deployed to the area to prevent further escalation.
The clash is believed to be the climax of tensions that have simmered for years, prompting the Taraba State Government to previously order the sealing of the UMCN headquarters in Jalingo.
