NOSDRA DG knocks Gov Fubara over fresh remarks on Wike

The Director-General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Chukwuemeka Woke, has called on Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to show respect to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Woke, a close ally of Wike, condemned the governor’s recent statements about projects initiated by the former administration.
He described Fubara’s remarks as “unhealthy, unfortunate, and disrespectful.”
Woke referenced an event in Ahoada where Fubara reportedly criticized projects carried out under Wike’s administration, describing them as “meaningless and not impactful.” The governor also reportedly canceled contracts awarded during Wike’s tenure, citing political reasons.

“It is unfair for the governor to denigrate those who paved the way for his emergence,” Woke said. “To publicly denigrate those who stood by you is not just a show of betrayal; it reveals a troubling pattern of vindictiveness.”
The NOSDRA chief also criticized the cancellation of contracts awarded under Wike, emphasizing the need to assess such projects on merit rather than political disagreements.
“To cancel projects based on political differences rather than incompetence or lack of performance purely smacks of executive impunity,” he stated.
Woke further objected to Fubara’s alleged description of a road constructed by the previous administration as a “mere farm road,” highlighting its importance to the agricultural economy.
“How can you belittle such an essential infrastructure that connects farmers to markets?” he asked.
He praised Wike’s tenure, noting that the former governor served with commitment and purpose.
“Not to acknowledge the efforts of the former governor is to completely neglect the foundations laid before your emergence as governor,” Woke said. He called on Fubara to prioritize unity and collaboration among stakeholders to move the state forward.
Efforts to get a reaction from Governor Fubara’s media team were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
