AMGA 2024 AFN has proven Nigeria is open for business safer than ever UAG

A civil society group, the Unity Advocacy Group (UAG) has commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for the successful hosting of the Africa Military Games 2024 (AMGA 2024), emphasizing that the event demonstrates Nigeria’s safety and readiness for international business.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the UAG highlighted the significance of the games, stating that they showcased Nigeria’s ability to host international events while fostering regional cooperation to tackle security challenges.

The Convener of the UAG, Ifeanyi Aigbedion, lauded the AFN under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, for the meticulous organization of the event. “The games surpass so many international standards, especially with the manner it was organized,” he said.

Reflecting on the event’s success, the UAG expressed nostalgia for Nigeria’s past as a hub for major sporting events. “AMGA 2024 made us begin to remember the good old days Nigeria hosted international sporting events,” the group remarked.

The UAG also joined National Sports Diplomacy Ambassador Segun Odegbami in describing AMGA 2024 as a groundbreaking moment for Nigerian sports development. They praised the event as a bold step toward revitalizing a sector long overshadowed by neglect and underachievement.

Highlighting the participation of 21 countries, the UAG emphasized the confidence placed in Nigeria’s leadership on the continent. “The turnout of 21 countries is an indication that the participating countries believe in the Continental leadership capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the group stated.

The UAG further applauded the AFN’s achievement in winning the games, with General Musa reaffirming the military’s commitment to recruiting and developing athletes who will bring glory to Nigeria. “We salute the CDS who said that the Nigerian Military will continue to recruit and develop sportsmen who will go on to win more laurels and medals for the country,” the UAG concluded.
