Gunmen attack Rivers community, kill 4 residents

Gunmen on Sunday morning launched a deadly attack on Edeoha, a community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, killing four individuals in the process.
According to sources, the gunmen, believed to be members of the Iceland cult group, stormed the community around 2 a.m., armed with sophisticated weapons and firing indiscriminately. Panic spread as residents fled their homes, fearing for their lives.
Witnesses reported that the attackers moved from house to house, seemingly targeting specific individuals, though the motive for the killings remains unclear.

A resident, speaking anonymously, said, “The entire community was thrown into chaos when the shooting began. Three of those killed were from Edeoha, while the fourth victim, originally from Ekata, also in Ahoada East, lived in Edeoha.”
The source added that the attackers were suspected to have come from a nearby camp to carry out the overnight assault. “Though the victims were not involved in cult activities, it’s believed the assailants may have been hired to eliminate them over undisclosed issues.”
Reports indicate that Edeoha is accessible via the Nbaima-Ahoada highway and is bordered by creeks and rivers, which criminals sometimes exploit to evade capture.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, described the attack as cult-related.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha, has instructed the Ahoada Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer to investigate the incident thoroughly, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure they are brought to justice,” she said.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing as security forces work to restore calm in the area.
