How man reportedly k lled pregnant wife over alleged affair with younger brother

A 30-year-old man, Motunayo Olaniyi, has been accused of fatally stabbing his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The tragic incident reportedly took place on Friday following a heated argument between the couple. Sources suggest that Olaniyi attacked his 25-year-old wife after accusing her of being pregnant by his younger brother.

In a statement released on Saturday, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Motunayo stabbed Olajumoke multiple times during the altercation. He then locked her in their room and set it on fire.

Hundeyin also disclosed that the suspect inflicted injuries on himself after the attack.

“Police from the Ikorodu Division responded to a distress call and put out the fire. They found Olajumoke’s lifeless body with abdominal wounds,” the statement read.

A team of officers who responded to the scene extinguished the fire and discovered Olajumoke’s body. The suspect was subsequently rescued, taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and later placed in police custody.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Olaniyi inflicted minor injuries on himself after fatally wounding his wife. Olajumoke’s body has since been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, and investigations are ongoing.

According to a report by PUNCH, a source in the community revealed that Olajumoke was six months pregnant at the time of her death.

The source said, “The man accused his wife of being pregnant by his younger brother. This wasn’t the first time he made such an accusation before killing her on Friday. His younger brother is in shock, as he had no idea about the allegations and would have defended himself.”

Additionally, a police source disclosed that Olaniyi had attacked his wife earlier in the week in the presence of his mother-in-law. “The mother-in-law claimed he was possessed by an evil spirit and took him to the church for prayers. After he returned home, she left, and that was when he attacked and killed his wife, accusing her of having an affair with his brother,” the source added.
