Commuters stranded as flood disrupts Lagos traffic

Commuters and motorists were left stranded for several hours on Friday after flooding disrupted traffic on the Odo Iyaloro Bridge near Maryland, Lagos.
The incident followed a light rainfall that led to water building up on the bridge, which road users blamed on blocked drainage channels in the area. The poor discharge of rainwater significantly slowed vehicular movement and caused a major traffic buildup.
As the congestion worsened, traffic spilled onto the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and stretched along Ikorodu Road, creating extended delays for motorists heading toward Maryland and nearby areas.
Several drivers expressed frustration over what they described as inadequate drainage maintenance, urging the appropriate authorities to clear the blocked channels to prevent similar incidents in the future.
