Seun Kuti, Peter Okoye reconcile after years-long feud

Nigerian musicians Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye have appeared to put an end to a rift that had lingered for several years.
The disagreement began in February 2023 after Kuti publicly described Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate at the time, as an opportunist who could not rescue Nigeria.
Kuti’s comments drew a sharp response from Okoye, who had openly endorsed Obi ahead of the presidential election held that same month. The exchange quickly escalated, resulting in heated arguments and sharp words between both artistes on social media.
However, recent developments suggest a reconciliation. A viral video circulating online shows both men sharing a warm embrace and smiling at each other inside a nightclub. In the clip, Kuti is heard telling Okoye, “We are artistes, we can not be fighting over politicians”.
Both singers were seen smiling and nodding, a moment that appeared to signal an end to their public dispute.
Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P, rose to fame as one half of the now-defunct music duo Psquare, alongside his twin brother Paul. He has since maintained his status as a prominent figure in Nigeria’s music industry.
Seun Kuti, meanwhile, is widely recognised for his outspoken views and socially conscious music, often addressing political and social issues affecting Nigeria and other parts of the world.
Since the release of his debut album ‘Many Things’ in 2008, Kuti has enjoyed sustained acclaim among Afrobeat fans. He currently has seven albums and several extended plays (EPs) to his credit.
