Family cheats death as tomato-laden truck crashes on Lagos bridge

A minitruck transporting tomatoes lost control on Thursday along Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after suffering brake failure.
The crash occurred around noon, but no lives were lost, as a family travelling in one of the affected vehicles narrowly escaped death.
Eyewitnesses said the truck veered off course and rammed into vehicles on the bridge.
Otedola Bridge is widely regarded as one of Lagos’ most accident-prone locations, with repeated incidents linked to brake failures, truck accidents and lingering structural issues.
Over the years, the bridge has witnessed several serious crashes, including deadly tanker explosions, falling containers and multi-vehicle collisions.
In 2025, three members of a family died in a collision involving an Audi car, a truck and a container truck on the bridge.
Earlier that same year, another vehicle plunged off the bridge in April, leaving the driver with severe injuries.
