Nine people were confirmed dead on Friday following a lone auto crash along the Jama’are–Azare road in Bauchi State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said.

The Bauchi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Apaji Boyi, disclosed this while speaking with journalists, adding that 10 other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident.

Boyi explained that the crash involved a commercial bus with registration number KTG181 ZZ, which was conveying 19 passengers from Gombe to Kano State. According to him, the accident occurred at about 6:20 a.m.

He said personnel of the corps arrived at the scene within 10 minutes to carry out rescue operations and clear the road.

The sector commander attributed the incident to speed limit violation, fatigue and loss of control, noting that the injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for treatment.

He added that the bodies of those who died were deposited at the morgue of the same medical facility.

“19 persons were involved in the fatal road crash and nine of them lost their lives on the spot, while 10 sustained serious injuries,” he said.

Boyi urged motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations, stressing that the FRSC would continue to sensitise drivers on traffic rules, signs and regulations across the state.
