4 family members killed as bandits launch fresh attack in Southern Kaduna

At least four members of a family were killed during a late-night bandit attack on Kachia town in Southern Kaduna, residents and family sources have confirmed.
The incident occurred late Friday night in Kachia, near the newly established Federal University of Applied Science, which is also the headquarters of Kachia Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
Multiple sources said the attackers stormed the community in large numbers and began shooting indiscriminately, creating panic and leaving several residents injured.
A member of the affected family confirmed the killings on Saturday, identifying the victims as Mr. Bitrus Bahago, his wife, Mrs. Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son, Ibrahim Bitrus Bahago, and another relative, Adam Waziri.
“They are all four killed by the bandits,” the family source said.
According to the source, the gunmen opened fire on residents upon arrival, while those who sustained injuries were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Residents described the attack as terrifying, noting that Kachia has suffered repeated assaults by armed groups despite its proximity to major institutions and security formations.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
Southern Kaduna has experienced sustained violence in recent years, with frequent attacks by bandits and gunmen. Community members have repeatedly appealed to both the federal and state governments to improve security and protect vulnerable areas.
In a related development, bandits also recently attacked Bukkah community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting at least seven people.
A local government staff member confirmed that the assailants struck the village earlier in the day, beginning the assault with heavy gunfire that forced residents out of their homes.
Many villagers fled into nearby forests to escape after realising they were under attack.
According to the source, security operatives were unable to respond immediately due to the difficult terrain and fears of a possible ambush.
Those abducted from Bukkah village were identified as Mohammed Rufai, Sagiru Musa, Bala Usman, Aisha’atu Usman, Bilkisu Isiya, Sa’adiya Usman, and Wasila Usman.
In another incident, bandits also invaded Nissi community in the same local government area, kidnapping an Anglican priest and his wife.
A member of the Anglican Church of Nigeria confirmed that the victims were abducted from their residence in Nissi village.
The source identified the victims as Edwin Achi and his wife, Sarah Achi.
