Court rules on Malami wife son s bail applications

The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled January 7 for its ruling on the bail applications filed by former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, alongside his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, and their son, Abubakar Abdulaziz.

Justice Emeka Nwite announced the date on Friday after counsel to the defendants, Joseph Daudu, SAN, and counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, adopted their written addresses and advanced arguments for and against the applications.

PlatinumPost reports that the EFCC, in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/700/2025, listed Malami, his wife, and son as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd defendants in an alleged money laundering case.

According to the anti-graft agency, the defendants were involved in multiple suspicious financial transactions and allegedly attempted to conceal the illegal source of billions of naira through various bank accounts and property acquisitions located in Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi states.

The commission alleged that the offences were committed between 2015 and 2025, a period covering the eight years Malami served as Attorney-General of the Federation during the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The EFCC further accused Malami, Asabe, and Abdulaziz of conspiring to disguise the origin of funds, indirectly acquiring properties, and retaining sums they allegedly knew to be proceeds of unlawful activities, contrary to the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition and Prevention) Acts of 2011 (as amended) and 2022.
