Worker found dead in govt house with ‘rubber solution’ in mouth, tied neck

A casual worker at the Gombe Government House, Mallam Umar, also known as “Baba Usama,” has been found dead with his trousers tied around his neck, while a local intoxicant popularly known as rubber solution was reportedly inserted in his mouth.
The Gombe State Police Command described the incident as a suspected case of culpable homicide, confirming that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the death.
In a statement signed on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the command disclosed that the deceased and the suspect were both casual staff working within the Government House premises.
The statement reads: “Gombe State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a tragic incident of culpable homicide involving two casual staff working within the Gombe Government House premises.
“On 26th December, 2025, at about 1550 hours, a distress report was received that a male adult identified as Mallam Umar (also known as “Baba Usama”), a casual staff attached to the Gombe State Government House, employed as a borehole operator at the Gombe State Government house was found lying motionless.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the victim was discovered with his trousers tied around his neck, while a local intoxicant (popularly known as rubber solution) was found inserted in his mouth. He was immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor. His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
“Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, MNIPS, fwc, psc(+), visited the scene and ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
“Further investigations, including the review of CCTV footage within the Government House premises, revealed that one Shuaibu Adamu ‘M’, aged 19 years, also known as “Yaya Mama” of Mallam Kuri Quarters, a casual watchman attached to a construction company handling projects within the Gombe Government House, was seen assaulting the deceased prior to his death. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident.
“In a coordinated follow-up operation, at about 2300 hours on the same date, the suspect was tracked and arrested at his hideout in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.
“The suspect remains in police custody while investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the homicide and to ensure diligent prosecution in accordance with the law.
“The Gombe State Police Command reassures the public of its firm commitment to justice and the safety of all persons working within and around government facilities.”
