Two women arrested over attempt to smuggle drugs to inmates in Kano

Two women have been arrested by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nassarawa, who stated that the incident occurred during the Service’s ongoing efforts to prevent the entry of prohibited items into custodial facilities.
According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, both aged between 19 and 20 years and residents of Kano State, were intercepted on December 21, 2025, during routine security checks while attempting to gain access to the custodial centre.
Sources reports that the women were found in possession of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, which preliminary investigations indicated were intended to be supplied to inmates within the facility.
The Service noted that such an act constitutes a serious violation of NCoS regulations and is a criminal offence under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict security and discipline within and around custodial centres, stressing its zero-tolerance stance on all forms of illegal activities.
The Command also urged members of the public to comply strictly with the rules and regulations guiding visits to correctional facilities, warning that any breach would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
