We’ve restored normal traffic on Abuja–Lokoja expressway — Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has confirmed that vehicular movement has been restored on the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway after a temporary disruption caused by a confrontation between truck drivers and military personnel over the weekend.
The disruption followed an incident involving the smashing of a truck’s windscreen, which prompted truck drivers to block a section of the highway, leading to heavy traffic congestion along the route.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Works, Mohammed A. Ahmed, the ministry said the situation resulted in serious delays and hardship for motorists travelling towards Lokoja and other destinations during the festive period.
“In response, the Honourable Minister directed the immediate opening of already completed sections of the Expressway and approved the deployment of all necessary measures to restore free movement and ease the hardship being experienced by the road users.
“The directive, which was promptly implemented on Sunday, 21st December, 2025, has helped to decongest the affected corridor and improve traffic flow,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the Federal Controller of Works in Kogi State, Engr. Patiko Isah, disclosed that “The Field Headquarters, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security agencies, restored the free flow of traffic at about 2:00 a.m., today.”
Speaking on the situation, Engr. Umahi urged motorists to exercise patience, remain orderly and drive with caution, especially during the busy holiday travel season.
He further assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s steadfast commitment to providing safe, efficient and dependable road transportation across the country.
