Shock as year 2 university’s student dies from snake bite

The Federal University of Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State, is in mourning following the death of Favour, a 200 Level student of Biotechnology, who reportedly lost her life after being bitten by a snake.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday night at Itakeate Isao, according to information circulating within the university community. Reports indicate that the circumstances surrounding the snake bite are still being discussed by students and staff.
Confirmation of the death was contained in a statement released by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Public Relations Officer, Comrade Baye, who described the loss as devastating to both students and university workers.
“With deep pain and heavy hearts, we sadly announce the passing of Favour, a 200 Level student of Biotechnology.”
It was further gathered that the student was promptly taken to a medical facility following the incident in an attempt to save her life.
“It was gathered that she was bitten by a snake on Thursday night and was immediately rushed to the Isanlu General Hospital for urgent treatment. Sadly, despite all efforts, she could not survive and passed on.”
News of Favour’s death reportedly spread rapidly across the campus, leaving students, lecturers, and university officials in shock, grief, and deep sorrow, with many expressing condolences.
In its statement, the Students’ Union Government extended heartfelt sympathies to the deceased’s family, friends, classmates, and coursemates in the Department of Biotechnology, describing the loss as one that would be deeply felt across the institution.
“This loss is heartbreaking and difficult to accept. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and coursemates during this moment of grief.”
The SUG also appealed to students to remain calm and support one another throughout the mourning period, while calling on university management and relevant authorities to address safety concerns in and around student residential areas.
The statement concluded with prayers for the repose of the deceased and strength for those affected by the tragedy.
“May God grant them strength, and may Favour’s gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
