NERC : Tinubu reconstitutes board, appoints chairman, vice chair, others

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16.
The approval was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, the reconstituted board is chaired by Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, with Dr Yusuf Ali appointed as Vice Chairman.
Other members of the board are Nathan Rogers Shatti, Dafe Akpeneye, Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, Dr Chidi Ike and Dr Fouad Animashaun, all serving as commissioners.
The statement noted that Dr Oseni, who began his service at the commission as a commissioner in January 2017 and later became Vice Chairman, assumed office as Chairman with effect from December 1, 2025. His appointment, it added, will run until the completion of his 10-year tenure in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr Ali was first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022 and became Vice Chairman from December 1, 2025. He will serve in that capacity until the completion of his first term.
Shatti and Akpeneye are both serving second terms as commissioners, having been first appointed in January 2017, while Bello is also on her second term after her initial appointment in December 2020.
Dr Ike, appointed in February 2022, and Dr Animashaun, whose tenure takes effect from December 2025, are serving their first terms. Dr Animashaun is an energy economist with extensive experience in the power sector and previously served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu urged the board members to deepen and consolidate ongoing reforms in the power sector, in strict accordance with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
