Shock in Kano as pregnant woman, 18-month-old child killed in night attack

Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu in the Kano metropolis were left stunned on Saturday following the reported killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unknown attackers.
The tragedy was said to have been discovered around 8 pm when the woman’s husband returned from work and found the house locked from the outside. After forcing his way in, he reportedly found the bodies of his wife and child inside the residence.
Both victims were said to have been attacked and burnt.
A community leader, Ahmad Sani, confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the lack of security in the area, noting that residents had earlier constructed a police outpost through communal efforts.
“For a long time, the community built a police outpost, but the authorities have yet to deploy personnel to man the facility,” Sani said.
He urged the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, to immediately post officers to the outpost to improve security and avert further incidents.
Reacting to the development on Sunday, the Kano State Police Command confirmed that an investigation had commenced.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this in a WhatsApp message.
“Yes, it’s true the incident happened, but we are investigating the issue,” Haruna said.
