Crash : NAF hails Alpha Jet pilots’ composure, vows to investigate incident

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has applauded the courage and professionalism displayed by two Alpha Jet pilots who successfully ejected after their aircraft encountered an in-flight emergency during a post-inspection test mission.
In a statement on Saturday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, explained that the jet had just departed NAF Base, Kainji, for a routine functional check when the unexpected incident occurred.
According to Ejodame, the pilots maintained composure throughout the emergency, guiding the aircraft away from residential areas before carrying out a safe ejection in accordance with international aviation safety standards.
He said their prompt response reflected an impressive level of discipline, skill and commitment to duty. Both officers were quickly rescued and are currently undergoing standard medical examinations.
Ejodame added that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, commended the pilots for their “sound judgement,” noting that their actions prevented a potentially serious accident. He also directed that a Board of Inquiry be set up to determine the cause of the incident.
The NAF, he said, remains dedicated to stringent safety procedures and to safeguarding its personnel and the civilian population in line with its constitutional role.
